You know, one of my goals was to use my website more. Technically I did. I also just started using social media less. So it kind of evened out.
One of my goals was to be in my writing and comic era. And I was! And I am! Made progress with my novel, Cursed Flowers. Did a lot of other writing that's been posted on prior blogs. Even went as far as expanding on WildStar Press. A lot of writing has been done.
So 2023 was pretty successful despite it's ups and downs.
But now it's 2024.
Surprisingly (not really), I don't have much to say about it. And this is why I can't have a newsletter, lol I never know what to say. So let's see...
I've made some goals this year, but they're mostly for me so I won't air them out here. But they're just prioritizing my personal mental and physical health just to give you the gist.
Instead here's some things to expect out of me this year:
More Short Stories as I work on my novel (and hopefully come up with a new outline too) It's surprising because after playing around with the same characters for so long, it's a little harder to make new ones. But! I'm going to figure it out, there will be more short stories.
Some fan comics! I have two Scooby-Doo scripts that I'd love to have drawn by an artist. And two Godzilla ones but I'm holding off on those just in case. And a TMNT one in the works... (IDW call me-)
WildStar Press - things are moving forward this year for the press and I can't wait for you to see it.
Another anthology! I don't know which one yet, but I'll definitely be applying for another one!
Everything is pretty obtainable. The words of the year are "Change" and "Consistency". If you really want things to be different, to be better, you will have to change something to get there; mentality, health, etc. Can’t expect anything to change if you’re doing the same thing or thinking the same way over and over again. And then you have to consistently keep up with that new change. Nothing is ever one and done. You have to put in the work.
But anywho! Here's some media updates! (And 2024 I hope to give myself more time to actually enjoy more media)
I've been watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters with a friend and -- well! I'm still watching it! So I can't say it's bad! It's not actually bad, there is just one purposeful plot point that I think could be executed better and not frustrate me personally lol. However, I'm entertained so I'm not going to complain too much.
I got back into novels in 2023 which was refreshing. Rediscovering my love for reading has also come with giving myself a lot of grace. I'm not the same kid who would read books in a day and that's okay because well! I'm still reading! (The library deadlines stress me out with how slow I am reading though lmao). Currently reading The Honeys by Ryan la Sala. Let me tell you, I'm a little under halfway through this book and it is so far?? Really good. I haven't finished it yet but so far it is looking like a recommendation from me.
Ooh, first music recommendation of the year... Let's see.... Here have Jungkook ft. Usher - Standing Next to You. Did you know there were people who didn't know who Usher was??? A staple of the RnB genre??? I feel ancient. The song's great though, loved Usher's feature in this.
Also a newer artist: Thomas Ng - IC+B, found this not too long ago. This is a good one too.
And that's about it! May our 2024 be filled with success and positivity. Remember to respect yourself, love yourself, and have the confidence of a mediocre white man in a successful position because it's our time to shine. 🌟
